At CluePoints, we recognize that our responsibilities extend beyond business performance to encompass broader societal impacts. We strive to create a sustainable and equitable world by integrating ESG criteria into our operations. Through dedicated committees and proactive initiatives, we remain focused on driving positive change both within our organization and the greater community.
We’re taking proactive steps to enhance our sustainability and social responsibility efforts through an ESG committee with two subdivisions. Together, we’re generating new ideas for high-impact initiatives.
We’re directing our attention toward initiatives aimed at eco-friendly practices. With a focus on exploring innovative methods to conserve energy and reduce our environmental footprint, we’re committed to implementing tangible solutions for a more sustainable future.
We’re dedicated to championing social causes. From equality initiatives and social justice to community development projects, we’re actively engaged in nurturing positive societal change. In 2023, we recognized STEM education for marginalized youth as the cornerstone of our endeavors.
We used EcoVadis in 2022 and 2023 to assess how CluePoints aligns with principles concerning the environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. Our overall score improved from 48 to 55; with subscores in environment and sustainable procurement increasing by 20 points each, we now score at least 50 points in every subcategory. We have long-term plans to elevate our performance as we continue our journey toward total sustainability. Check back for updates, and continue reading for more on our comprehensive ESG plans.
Despite scaling our business rapidly, we aim to use 2022 as our reduction target baseline. With the invaluable assistance of CLIMACT, a trusted sustainability consultant, we assessed CluePoints’ 2022 greenhouse gas emissions baseline in Belgium and the US. Our short-term commitment to the Science Based Targets initiatives (SBTi) is to reduce company car, office heating, and electricity emissions by 43% by 2030. With 700 metric tons of CO2 emitted in 2022, 196 metric tons are within Scope 1 and 2. We commit to reducing our Scope 1 and 2 emissions to 112 metric tons or lower by 2030.
Purchased goods and services constitute the third-largest contributor to our emissions, comprising 18% of total emissions or 92 metric tons of CO2. The most effective approach to mitigating these emissions is through a sustainable procurement program.
Initiating this endeavor, we conducted a thorough analysis of our supplier base to ascertain the proportion of suppliers (by value) that have already pledged adherence to SBTi’s near-term target for 2030 (23%) or long-term target for 2050 (11%). We’ll continue to focus on this metric, encouraging our supply base to commit to SBTi’s near-term targets at a minimum to build up our own capacity to align with SBTi’s long-term target for 2050.
